Who We Are
At Brigid's Balm we are focused on providing spiritual and emotional support for individuals and their families with regard to end of life care.
Assisting individuals during their transition from life through death is a very sacred time. We provide a variety of services to help families and individuals to experience the comfort of being supported, both while dealing with end of life care and after. Should there be services necessary that we are not able to provide we will be glad to assist you in contacting the appropriate agencies. Debbie is NOT a nurse or a PSW and is not qualified to dispense medications.
Companioning, legacy work, compassionate end-of-life care provided in your home. Rates are $35.00 per hour, and when visiting those outside of the Smiths Falls area there is an additional charge of $35.00 to cover travel expenses.
Also available to give seminars, rates to be discussed but generally $10.00 per person (plus expenses should there be handouts). Workshops are also available on various subjects such as our Grieving Through Art series. The cost for each workshop depends upon supplies required.
LIFE CYCLE CELEBRANT
As a Life Cycle Celebrant and Spiritual Counselor I am able to perform a variety of rituals such as deathbed rituals, celebrations of life, home funerals (for people and pets), memorials, ceremonies of adoption (for people and pets), baby naming ceremonies, celebrations of commitment or renewal of vows (NOT Canadian weddings), home blessings and handfastings. My services are available for those of any or no faith, and I also support the LGBQT community. I believe ritual to be an important aspect of our lives, bringing family and community closer together both in times of celebration and of shared mourning.
HOME FUNERAL CONSULTANT
The initial half hour consultation is free, and services following will be invoiced in accordance to services provided. Please feel free to contact us to set up a consultation appointment in our office or in your home.
ADVANCED CARE PLANNING
I am an Advanced Care Planning Facilitator. This work is usually set up as a workshop within the community, but personal consultations are also available. Please watch our "Events" page for future dates, or contact us should you request our services. Should you wish to book an Advanced Care Planning seminar or workshop for your group, please contact me at [email protected]
Set up within my new office setting, these will be held at The Soul Space, 207 Brockville Street in Smiths Falls on the third Tuesday of every month from 6-8:00 beginning in March 2020. A Death Cafe is not a bunch of "goths" sitting around a table wearing black and talking about death - but it could be!!! This is a place to gather, eat cake, drink coffee and tea and discuss aspects of death or dying or expectations or experiences, everyone is welcome to join the discussion. Please watch our "Events" page for further details, soon to be hosted on a monthly basis.
- EDIT - DEATH CAFES AND GATHERINGS HAVE BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO COVID-19, HOWEVER, SHOULD THERE BE SUFFICIENT INTEREST, DEATH CAFES WILL BE HELD ONLINE VIA ZOOM MEETING. PLEASE EMAIL OR FOLLOW OUR FACEBOOK PAGE FOR FURTHER DETAILS!

Feel free to email us with questions or topics you would like to see covered in the future.

Debbie Seddon-Laninga is a very compassionate caregiver and treats those with whom she is working with dignity and respect. After extensive (and continuing) education and experience she has discovered her calling serving others as a Thanadoula. Being a Spiritual Counselor and End of Life Care Specialist ensures you will be receiving quality services as you or your loved one prepare to transition from end of life through death.
Training as an Advanced Care Planning Facilitator has enabled her to teach and assist with individuals preparing advanced care plans and determining who would be the best substitute decision maker should they not be able to speak for themselves.
Specializing in Legacy work Debbie is able to help create a loving memorial for those left behind. With a variety of options available, Brigid's Balm is able to create the package best suited to your needs.
Debbie also donates some of her time as a way to give back to her community through volunteer hospice service hours. She is also a member of the Disability Advisory Council for Dying With Dignity Canada, and is also a Volunteer Witness with DWDC.
As a Life Cycle Celebrant and Home Funeral Consultant Debbie is willing to offer her services to families wishing to conduct their own style of funeral, memorial or celebration. Please feel free to contact us and set up a consultation appointment.
Debbie also provides seminars on Advanced Care Planning and other topics centered around end of life care. She is also preparing a seminar series with a 2020 scheduled release. Please contact us for further information.
